Does anyone else also get the following warning: "You've reached your daily quota of data extraction. You've retrieved 50000+/500000 dots today. Learn more about Ubidots STEM limits."?

I’m actually getting a warning in my dashboard " You’ve reached your daily quota of data extraction. You’ve retrieved 500344/500000 dots today. Learn more about Ubidots STEM limits.

No data is displayed any more on my widgets and there is an error message at every widget that says: " Error loading your data
Something went wrong on our end and we were unable to load your data."

My single device uses less than 4000 dots/day and worked flawlessly for the past 5 days so it looks to me there is an error on ubidots side maybe?

Thanks for investigation

Hi @SleepingCat,

I hope all is well,

Please refer to the following post where you can find answers on how Ubidots count dots and the reported issue that is in progress now.

Let me know if you have further questions!

Hi Isabel,

thanks for your quick reply and apologies for my post. Looks like its absolutely my fault. I’m new to Ubidots and didn’t know that the data that can be retrieved is limited.
Some questions still arise for me:

  1. Let’s say - to give an example - I have a device that has an interval of 5min and has 5 variables. That would result in 1440 dots/day. For each variable I add a “Line Chart” Widget to display its values. I set the start date of the chart to a fixed date. Does the count of “Data Extraction” increase by 1440 dots each day and each time I update the dashboard via web interface?
So after the first day one dashboard update results in 1440 dots, on the second day 2880 dots and on the third day 4320 dots in terms of “Data Extraction”?

  2. If my dashboard is empty (no “Widgets” at all), is there still a way how dots can be consumed in terms of “Data Extraction”? Does clicking on the device or its variables consume dots as well?

  3. In my account - when I go to “My Profile” > “Usage” there is a list where one can see how much of which “TYPE” is already consumed. However I first thought that I can only see the “TOTAL” of a month and day 1-6 unless I found out it is possible to scroll to the right and left to see all single days of a month. I think it would be nice if it could somehow be made visually clear that it is possible to scroll…

  4. To me it looks like the number of consumed things (that can be seen at “My Profile” > “Usage”) is off by one day. It looks like the consumption shown for today is actually for the previous day.

Thanks again

Hi @SleepingCat,

Thank you for taking the time to read the other post and come with questions, please find below the response.

Yes, indeed if each line chart is configured to show the values of one day, it would consume 1440 dots per refreshing. Now, the consumption of more of one day doesn’t accumulate, so the next day it would depend on the dates you configure the widgets/dashboard to show. In case you need to display or monitor a large amount of data we will be happy to guide you through our available plans and find the best fit for your project.

  1. If my dashboard is empty (no “Widgets” at all), is there still a way how dots can be consumed in terms of “Data Extraction”? Does clicking on the device or its variables consume dots as well?

Yes, the dots-out comes through two (2) outbound channels, that cover the dots consumed in the variables view.

  • API : Data requested by external applications or devices from our API. Meaning each value extracted using any of our supported protocols (MQTT, HTTP, TCP/UDP).
  • Front-end: Data requested by the web interface (Dashboard and devices). This includes all the queries required to render dashboards, CSV reports, variables, etc. Having that in mind, yes refreshing a Dashboard, or exporting data will consume dots out.

Thank you so much for your feedback about the scroll bar in the usage section. I will share it with the product team to see how to enhance this view.

The count of dots reset at UTC 00:00, meaning the values of today are the ones from yesterday, we have an internal ticket to modify this behavior and reflect the values of the respective day. I will let you know as soon as we made this modification.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Have a nice day!

Hi Isabel,

thank you so much for taking your time to answer all my questions - it has given me a lot of clarity.
Also thank you for forwarding the feedback internally.

I have this problem too. Unable to see any dat now for a couple of days. Dots not being reset.

I have an iSpindel that reads every 15 minutes, so not too dot hungry. Never had this problem before. Any idea why this has happened ??

Simon

Glad to learn that the view could be scrolled ! I did not realize that this was possible. I agree on that there should be some clue about this on the page view.
